RIZZO’S BREAD WINS $5K IN MOMENTUM 5X5 BUSINESS PITCH COMPETITION

Rizzo’s Bread took home the $5,000 top prize at the Momentum 5x5 Business Pitch Competition on Monday at Epworth Heights, after competing against four other finalists. The award, sponsored by Epworth, is part of an initiative to support local entrepreneurs and foster community-driven business development.

An initiative of entrepreneur Trevor Lehew, Rizzo’s offers bagel pop-ups in Ludington, Pentwater, and Scottville. The business also serves sandwiches, pizza, pasta, bread, and more – all with a focus on collaboration and community building. Lehew has been a chef for 20 years and has a passion for crafting handmade, artisanal food that fills a community need for high-quality baked goods.

Rizzo’s was selected as the winner for its strong potential to scale through wholesale operations, which positions the business for significant growth beyond its current footprint, according to Brandy Miller, president/CEO of the Chamber Alliance of Mason County. The judges were also impressed by its ability to fill a unique product niche—one that not only serves the needs of the local community but also has appeal across the broader region, she said.

The prize money will assist Rizzo’s in expanding its product line, offering catering and cooking classes, and eventually owning a brick-and-mortar location.

Other finalists in Monday’s competition were Ludington Cheesecake Co., Made New Naturals, Rare American Woodworking, and The Side Room.

Each contender had five minutes to pitch a new business idea and/or tell how they would use the prize money in their business.

In addition to a cash prize, Rizzo’s Bread will receive in-kind gifts from Epworth, including advertising and business representation at events.

The Momentum 5x5 Pitch Competition is administered by the Chamber Alliance of Mason County, held in partnership with Epworth, a private, seasonal resort along Lake Michigan.

Rizzo’s is the seventh 5x5 winner in what has been an annual event.
