Position Title: Marketing and Communications Manager

Reports To: United Way of Mason County Executive Director

General Description: The Marketing and Communications Manager is an employee of United Way of Mason County. The employee works to effectively brand the organization and communicate the organization’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Communicate the organization’s mission and message to target audiences and increase brand awareness.
  2. Help set and track marketing and communications goals.
  3. Maintain marketing calendar, project timelines and deadlines.
  4. Write and distribute media releases, along with working with local newspapers and radio stations to promote organizations’ activities and expand the organization’s exposure.
  5. Write, design and publish electronic newsletters.
  6. Monitor, post, and engage on organizational social media accounts.
  7. Design and maintain the organization’s website.
  8. Design, coordinate printing, and distribution of promotional materials such as brochures, flyers, signs, etc.
  9. Assist in gathering client testimonials, impact stories and photos.
  10. Support internal communications by preparing talking points and presentations.
  11. Ability to speak publicly to large audiences.
  12. Remain current on marketing and communications best practices.
  13. Ability to manage databases.
  14. Execute special projects/events, as requested.
  15. Any other pertinent duties assigned by the Executive Director.

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communication or related field is required. Computer literacy is required (Microsoft Office Suites, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, Squarespace). In depth knowledge of Facebook, Instagram and Linked In. Ability to the initiative to learn new software programs.

Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to think analytically when solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.

Language: Ability to express thoughts in a thorough and concise manner in both oral and written form. Ability to read and interpret general business information. Ability to write effective reports and correspondence. Ability to present information and respond to questions from private and professional members of the community. Ability to communicate and interact with individuals from diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

Mathematical: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential job functions. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and talk. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License, reliable transportation and be able to travel in all kinds of weather. Starting Salary Range - $41,500.00 to $45,000.00
